O livro Orgulho e Preconceito é uma forte critica à futilidade das mulheres da época,
transcendendo o preconceito causado pelas falsas primeiras impressões, demonstrando a
interferência do autoconhecimento nos julgamentos, muitas vezes errôneo em relação à
outras pessoas.
A protagonista Elizabeth Bennet é a segunda de 5 filhas de um proprietário rural na
cidade fictícia de Meryton, e apresenta uma personalidade forte e bem diferente das
demais moças de sua época.
As primeiras impressões de Elizabeth a respeito de Darcy não foram as melhores: fiel
à sua educação e com muitas normas de comportamento, o Sr Darcy não se ocupou
em socializar-se com os convidados daquele primeiro baile, que estavam tão ansiosos
para conhecer o novo vizinho, Bingley, amigo de Darcy e recém-locatário de uma
propriedade local. Não importando-se tanto com regras sociais e encantado pela beleza
da Srta Jane Bennet, Bingley integrou-se rapidamente na festa e tentou fazer com que
o amigo Darcy convidasse a irmã de sua companheira, Elizabeth Bennet, para dançar.
Darcy desdenhou da ausência de atrativos de Lizzy e feriu seu orgulho pela rejeição
sofrida, pois esta ouviu suas palavras de desprezo.
Após alguns encontros com Darcy, Elizabeth estava mais do que convencida que
suas primeiras impressões sobre ele eram certas. Ela agia propositalmente de forma
