O protagonista do romance de Goethe, o jovem Werther, é marcado por uma paixão
profunda e tempestuosa que culmina com o suicídio, o escapismo do romântico.
Werther é ciente de que está vivendo um amor impossível devido à impossibilidade de
torná-lo exímio, visto que sua jovem amada, Charlotte, já era prometida a outro homem,
Alberto. Querendo escapar dessa infeliz realidade, Werther suicida-se, sendo sua morte
a prova da intensidade do amor romântico e doentio.
Considerada uma autobiografia, o autor utiliza a obra como ferramenta de desabafo, já
que este vivera um amor que não pudera ser correspondido.
Causou grande impacto entre os jovens na Europa quando fora publicado em 1774,
havendo um crescente indício de suicídios, tamanha foi a consequência que alguns
governos tentaram impedir a circulação da obra.
Os Sofrimentos do Jovem Werther indicou o início do romantismo, sendo possível
perceber características importantes, como a subjetividade, demonstrando valorização
das emoções e sentimentos individuais em detrimento da razão e do pensamento
objetivo; e a idealização da figura feminina, sendo a mulher a causa de extrema alegria e
tristeza, o ser superior ao qual o romântico almeja alcançar.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe também impõe o egocentrismo e o vínculo com a
natureza como alvo de inspiração ao protagonista relembrar momentos que viveu com
Charlotte no campo, onde seus sentimentos foram ressaltados. Também há a forte
presença da dramaticidade e o trágico, sendo notável no desfecho da obra.

The protagonist of the novel by Goethe, the young Werther, Who is marked by a stormy
and deep passion that culminates with the suicide of the romantic escapism.
Werther is aware that he is living a love impossible due to the inability to make it excels, as his young lover, Charlotte, was already betrothed to another man, Alberto.
Wanting to escape this unfortunate reality, Werther commits suicide, his death being the
proof of the intensity of a sickly and romantic love.
Considered an autobiography, the author uses the book as a tool to vent, since he had
lived a love that had not been able to match.
Caused great impact among young people in Europe when it had been published in
1774, there was a growing evidence of suicide, the consequences were too big that some
governments tried to prevent the circulation of the work .
The Sorrows of young Werther indicated the beginning of romanticism, being possible
to understand important features such as subjectivity, demonstrating enhancement
of individual emotions and feelings instead of reason and objective thinking, and the
idealization of the female figure, as women were the cause of extreme joy and sadness,
being bigger than the romantic hopes to accomplish.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe also imposes egocentrism and bond with nature as
inspiration target the protagonist remembering moments with Charlotte who lived in the
countryside where his feelings were highlighted . There is also a strong presence of the
drama and tragedy, being noted in the outcome of the work.
