Jane Austen, nascida em 1775, foi considerada a primeira romancista moderna da
literatura inglesa, começando a manifestar talento para as letras ainda na adolescência.
Assim como seus personagens, Jane Austen cresceu em uma zona rural na Inglaterra
entre a classe abastada e religiosa. Teve seis irmãos e uma irmã mais velha.
Aos 17 anos, escreveu seu primeiro romance, Lady Susan, uma paródia do estilo
sentimental de Samuel Richardson. Seu segundo livro, escrito em 1797, Orgulho e
Preconceito, tornou-se sua obra mais conhecida, embora, inicialmente, tenha sido
malvisto pelos editores.
Publicou outros livros de grandes sucessos como Razão e Sensibilidade, Mansfield
Park e Emma em um estilo menos ágil e humorístico, porém ganhando em serenidade e
sabedoria, sem perda de sua típica ironia.
Morreu em 18 de julho de 1817, aos 42 anos, um ano antes de serem publicadas as
obras Persuasão e Abadia de Northanger, sendo vítima do mal de Addison e deixando
inacabado o romance Sanditon.

Jane Austen, was born in 1775, was considered the first modern novelist in English
literature, beginning to manifest talent for lyrics in adolescence.
Like her characters, Jane Austen grew up in a rural area of England between the
wealthy class and religious. Had six brothers and one older sister.
At 17, she wrote her first novel, Lady Susan, a parody of the sentimental style of
Samuel Richardson. His second book, written in 1797, Pride and Prejudice, became her
best known work, although initially it was frowned upon by the editors.
Published other books on blockbusters like Sense and Sensibility, Mansfield Park and
Emma in a style less agile and humorous, but winning in wisdom and serenity, without
losing its’ typical irony.
Died July 18, 1817, at the age of 42, one year before the publication of the works
of Persuasion and Northanger Abbey, a victim of Addisons’ desease and leaving
unfinished the novel Sanditon.
